Antares knit-along

I’ve decided to run a little summer KAL for my Antares design over on Ravelry. Twist Collective released the design as part of their spring 2015 collection, so the KAL is going on in their forum. Mel of Black Trillium says she has plenty of Silken Lace, the yarn I used for my model, in stock so you can even use the very same yarn, if you’re of a mind to. If you like adding beads to your knits, this is the perfect opportunity. There are lots of beads along the very lacy border of this shawl.

Still on the fence? Here’s the blurb from my Ravelry kick-off post:

I was chatting with Kate a bit this morning about my Antares design from Twist Collective’s Spring 2015 issue. She suggested that I do a little summer KAL for the design. I thought that was a great idea!

I know what you’re thinking. A lace project? A quick KAL? Snort. Wait, though. Really, the design is a lot less complicated than you might think. The top part is all garter stitch with YOs at the center and each end—and just on the RS of the fabric—so can be worked on no matter where you are, and the beads, if you decide to use them, aren’t even added until you get to the border, so you don’t have to worry about carrying a little fiddly thing filled with beads that will spill everywhere (ask me how I know). You can do that last bit at home.

Plus, what’s cool, is I included three sizes in the pattern. I made the biggest one for the pattern, but the smallest is less than 57 inches wide, and is barely more than 30 inches high to the center point.

See? It’ll make a nice little summer project. Plus, you know, lace weight yarn. Summer. So much better than dragging around a huge bulky sweater project.

So, for the KAL part… I’m thinking that because summer is nearly half over already, we can start this any time. People who have lace weight yarn in their stash can just dig in, and those who don’t? Why buying lace weight yarn is no problem. Just slip into that beach- or mountain-side yarn shop. I’m sure they have plenty. You can tuck it into your bag, and get out of there before your SO even knows you were gone. Wink, wink.
